Make no mistake; Panama City Beach is fun. But at times, the condo canyon and the crowds can get old. Shell Island offers you and your family an oasis from the condos and crowds and the price is right. The waters around St. Andrews State Park are nice for both beginning and experienced kayakers. There is plenty of interesting shoreline to explore as well as good swimming and snorkeling spots. Experienced paddlers may want to make the crossing to Shell Island or even paddle out the pass for some sea kayaking. The easiest and safest way to try kayaking on Shell Island is to arrange a rental package that includes a ride on the Shell Island Water Taxi and kayaks available on Shell Island.*****KAYAKS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME******
You can snorkel around the St. Andrews State Park Jetty and on Shell Island. The habitats vary from sandy bottom to shallow grass flats to the rocky faces in the jetties. You will see tropical fish, crabs and rays. If you're lucky, a turtle or one of the resident bottlenose Dolphins. You can rent snorkel gear at the Jetty Store or purchase it as part of a package that includes Shuttle tickets for a Shell Island Snorkel Tour.
Shell Island cannot be reached by water. Visitors must travel by boat to reach it. Shell Island Ferry is the quickest, easiest, and most reliable way to get there. Since 1999, the Shell Island Ferry has been the official Shell Island Ferry of St. Andrews State Park.
The St. Andrews State Park jetty is a good spot for snorkeling, as well as Shell Island. There are many habitats available, including sand bottoms, shallow grass flats and the rocky faces of the jetties. There are many species of fish and crabs to be seen, as well as rays and, if you're lucky enough, some resident bottlenose dolphins. Renting snorkel gear is possible at the Jetty Store. Or, you can purchase it along with your Shell Island Snorkel Tour Shuttle tickets.

Shell Island has a fascinating amount of local wildlife including dolphins, loggerhead turtles, green sea turtles, ghost crabs, beach mice, nine-banded armadillos, alligators that live in the lake on the island, marsh rabbits, racoons and more
Once you get there it is all worth it, as it is the most beautiful water I've ever seen. It is like you are swimming in a pool it is so crystal clear. We didn't know what to expect with this so we went planning to spend a few hours on the island. Come expecting to spend all day!
St Andrews is one of our favorite state parks. I hope you enjoy! over a year ago. Yes you can kayak from the park to Shell Island however it is a little bit of distance and across a boating channel.
